Main components that are common in refrigerator, air conditioning,water cooler
- Evaporator
- Condenser

This cycle is for lowering the temperature and maintain it. The total amount of heat being rejected to the outside body and consists two parts heat extraction from body to be cooled and heat equivalent to mechanical work.
- The working of refrigeration cycle is illustrated .
The refrigeration starts from evaporator inlet in low pressure and by absorbing heat it converts or supplies through evaporator outlet to the compressor..
- Compressor sucks this vapour from the evaporator and increases in pressure. It is then discharged to the condenser, it removes all heat and condensed into liquid .
Refrigerator
Refrigerator is provided with a door push switch, which closes on opening of refrigerator and puts the lamp on. Capacitor-start single phase induction motor is used in open type refrigerators and split-phase single phase induction motor is used in sealed unit refrigerators. Electromagnetic relay is provided to connect auxiliary winding on the start and disconnect it when the motor picks up the speed. Thermal overload release is provided to protect the motor from damage against flow of over current .
Thermostat switch is provided to control the temperature inside the refrigerator. Temperature inside the refrigerator can be adjusted by means of temperature control screw. Greater the distance between contacts, greater will be the temperature inside the refrigerator and vice versa. To protect the motor against undervoltage use of automatic voltage regulator is essential since in case of fall in applied voltage, motor will draw heavy current to develop the required torque and will become hot, thermal overload relay will, therefore, repeatedly disconnect and connect the motor to supply, eventually burning it out.
The amount of heat required for personal comfort in a room or office depends upon the following factors:
1. The temperature of the outside air.
2. Area of window
3. Material of which walls, floors and ceiling are composed.
Air conditioning
Meaning and Objective of Air-Conditioning
Air conditioning may be defined as the production of an artificial atmosphere specially adopted to particular requirement or air-conditioning means control of temperature, humidity, purity and movement of air.
The working conditions and comfort of human beings is improved by air-conditioning. The humidity is maintained at 60% being most suitable for human beings. By air conditioning we heat the rooms in winter and cool them in summer. The air is also made dust free.
Parts of Air Conditioner:
The various parts of a room air conditioner are:
1. Compressor unit
2. Condenser
3. Receiver
4. Evaporator
5. Capillary tube
6. Impeller fan
Working of Air Conditioner:
In the case of a window type air-conditioner, the evaporator faces towards the inside of the room whereas the condenser faces towards the outside of the room as shown in Fig
The centrifugal fan sucks air from the room and passes it over the evaporator coils. As the room air passes over the evaporator coils (the surface temperature of the coils is very low) it is cooled and this cooled air is supplied to the room. An impeller fan sucks outside air through the sides and throws it over condenser and cools down the refrigerant passing through the condenser tubes.
The evaporator side and the condenser side are completely separated from each other by means of a partition.
The electrical circuit comprises the following components:
1. Fan Motor:
1 – Ï• split phase motor is used for fan motor. The fan motor is provided with an overload protection placed in winding so that in the event of overheating it is protected.
2. Starting Capacitor:
The starting capacitor (CS) is of large capacity. The rating of any capacitor is given in terms of voltage and KVAR, whereas its capacitance is in microfarad. It remains in the circuit for a short time, till the motor starts.
3. Running Capacitor:
The running capacitor (CR) is of smaller capacitance but heavy duty and are oil filled. It remains in the circuit continuously and improves the starting torque and power factor.
4. Thermostat:
The function of thermostat is to monitor the room temperature and start or stop the motor. When the room temperature increases, the contacts of thermostat close and start the compressor and when the temperature decreases the contacts open up and the compressor of the air conditioner stops.
Advantages of Room Air Conditioners:
1. Saving in installation.
2. Only those rooms which need cooling will have their units running.
3. Low initial cost.
4. Flexibility of operation.
5. Duct work is eliminated.
Water Cooler

The various parts of a water cooler are:
1. Compressor
2. Motor
3. Receiver
4. Condenser
5. Expansion valve
6. Evaporator coils surrounding the water tank
7. Water tank
8. Cover

Working Principle of the Water Cooler:
The working principle of the water cooler is based upon the vapour compression refrigeration cycle. The refrigerant is compressed by the compressor and is delivered to the condenser which is cooled by a fan. The high pressure liquid after being cooled by a condenser is collected in a receiver from where it goes to the expansion valve. The expansion valve takes the required quantity of the refrigerant depending upon the load on the evaporator.
- Thermal overload relay
As we know relay are the sensitive and protection devices . Here it is used for protection of the compressor and other units of the refrigerator.
If any faulty Condition,occur it automatically trips and protects all sytem.
- Starting relay
As above about relay..then it is a electro magnetic type which is used for making and breaking the contact of starting winding with the supply.
